If your map is displaying an old location, isn't updating as you move, or you're seeing a "No Map Found" message for an area you've already synced to your watch, your RECKON may not have an accurate GPS position yet.
What to Expect
When you first open the Maps on your watch, your location may not update immediately. During this time:
- Your current location icon will appear red while the watch searches for a GPS position. It may initially appear at the last location where GPS was successfully acquired.
- The map may display "No Map Found" if the last known location is outside the area covered by the maps currently synced to your watch.
- Once GPS has been acquired, the location icon will turn blue, and the map will update to your current location, provided you have a map synced to your watch for that area.
Important: Keep the Maps app open while the watch acquires GPS. Closing the Maps app before GPS has locked may delay your location from updating.
1. Verify You're Running the Latest Software
Software updates include ongoing improvements to GPS performance, stability, and reliability.
See How to Update Software for step-by-step instructions.
2. If You're Seeing "No Map Found," Verify You Have a Map Synced to Your Watch for Your Current Location
If your map is displaying an old location, you can skip to Step 3.
The watch will display "No Map Found" if you don't have a map synced to your watch for your current location.
Note: Maps must first be downloaded in the Bridger app and then synced to your watch before they can be viewed on the watch.
To verify you have a map synced to your watch:
- Create a waypoint in the Bridger app at your current location. Give it a unique name, such as Location Test.
- Tap Watch Sync in the Bridger app to sync the waypoint to your watch.
- On your watch:
- Open Maps by pressing the upper left button from the home screen.
- Press the upper right Select button.
- Select Waypoints List.
- Select the waypoint you created.
- Select View Waypoint.
Your watch will open the map centered on that waypoint.
- If you see your offline map displayed, continue to Step 3.
- If you see a gray map labeled "Map Missing," you don't have a map synced to your watch for your current location. See Downloading Your First Map for instructions on downloading and syncing a map to your watch.
3. Move to an Open Outdoor Area
GPS works best when the watch has a clear view of the sky.
For the best results:
- Go outdoors.
- Stay away from tall buildings, cliffs, parking garages, and dense tree cover.
- Keep your watch relatively still while GPS is acquiring your location.
Tip: Normal cloud cover generally does not affect GPS performance.
4. Give the Watch Time to Acquire GPS
The first GPS lock (sometimes called a cold start) may take longer than usual if:
- You've recently traveled a long distance.
- You haven't used GPS for an extended period.
- The watch has recently been restarted or updated.
Remain in an open outdoor area and leave the Maps app open while the watch establishes your location.
Once GPS has locked:
- The location icon will change from red to blue.
- Your location will update to your current position.
- If you have a map synced to your watch for that area, it will automatically load.
Still Having Trouble?
If your location still isn't updating after following the steps above, please contact Bridger Watch Support.
When you reach out, please include:
- Your watch software version.
- Whether the map is showing an old location or "No Map Found."
- Whether the location icon changed from red to blue.
- Approximately how long you waited with the Maps app open.
This information will help us troubleshoot the issue more quickly.
